US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has clashed with CBS’ Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan over immigration. The pair clashed when Brennon questioned the Homeland Security Secretary about reviving a policy which will “separate children from their families at the border.” Noem shot back at the journalist, blasting former US President Joe Biden for not following the law.
She said “He didn’t follow the law, in the fact that it’s always been equally applied until his administration. He made decisions to ignore federal law in how he handled immigration and enforcements within our borders. Noem also discussed the expansion of the Trump administration’s Immigration and customs Enforcement (ICE) team. On Sunday, Noem announced new leadership at ICE, including the appointment of Todd Lyons as ICE Director, who has a long history with Tom Homen.
Lyons will be replacing ICE’s acting Director, Caleb Vitello, after he was reassigned for failing to meet anti-immigration expectations according to Reuters. Trump administration had recently voiced criticism and frustration with the speed of deportations. They have blamed its speed on recent leaks made to the media that revealed which cities were to be targeted by ICE raids. U.S Attorney General – Pam Bondi blasted the leakers for revealing valuable information to the media, citing it puts the lives of those conducting the raids at risk. Kristi Noem said the agency plans to prosecute two leakers of the information and has vowed to punish those who leak to the media.
During the CBS interview, Noem discussed how border crossings are now at a 25 year low. She remarked “This Isn’t Joe Biden’s world anymore. This is President Donald Trump’s Country where we have a border, where we have laws, and it applies equally to everybody living or staying in America. On the topic of separating the migrant families, Noem replied that “everybody has an option, they have an option to be here legally or illegally and they can self deport as well”.
She also reminded that “when American break the law and they have consequences or face a situation, they are separated from their families too” She also remarked that everywhere where she has been within this country, people she met are saying “THANK YOU” thank you for removing these terrorists from our country. United States President Donald Trump’s handling of the border crisis has been welcomed by many.
Many Americans have praised him and his administration’s rapid response since coming onto Office. Sky news host Rowen Dean has praised Donald Trump, saying he is at the “PINNACLE” of his career, and that he was never seen this confidant and never seen cracking jokes.
