French President Emmanuel Macron’s arrival in Vietnam on Sunday evening took an unexpected turn when cameras appeared to capture a tense moment between him and First Lady Brigitte Macron. As the couple exited the aircraft in Hanoi, Brigitte was seen making what looked like a slapping gesture towards the President, prompting startled reactions from nearby officials. Macron, visibly unsettled, continued with diplomatic protocol, waving to the media and greeting military personnel. While exiting the plane, when Macron offered to hold Brigitte’s hand, she defiantly refused the hand and went down the stairs on her own. The two later departed silently in a waiting vehicle. The Élysée Palace has not commented on the incident.
