White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clashed once again with CNN ’s Kaitlan Collins during a tense exchange over the Trump administration’s decision to deploy National Guard troops in Portland.
The heated moment came after a Trump-appointed federal judge temporarily blocked the President’s order , calling it “untethered to the facts.” But Leavitt fired back hard, saying the judge’s opinion was untethered to reality and the law — citing U.S. Code 12404, which gives the President authority to call up the National Guard when deemed necessary.
When pressed by Collins on whether any Portland officials requested the deployment, Leavitt accused the CNN reporter of “only speaking to partisan Democrats .” The press room fell silent as Leavitt doubled down on the administration’s legal justification and defended the President’s authority to restore order.
