Fox News’ Peter Doocy confronted President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky inside the Oval Office over their conflicting statements about how to end the Russia–Ukraine war. Trump claimed Zelensky could “end the war immediately,” while Zelensky insisted Moscow bears full responsibility.
With the first question as Trump and Zelensky met in the Oval Office Monday, Doocy addressed conflicting statements by the two leaders posted to social media ahead of the White House summit.
“So President Zelensky, you say in a post on X today, ‘Russia must end this war, which they started.’ President Trump, you say, ‘President Zelensky of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately if he wants to,’ — which is it? “
Well, I think that’s true,” Trump replied. “I think we’re gonna have a meeting. I think if everything works out well today, we will have a trilat, and I think there will be a reasonable chance of ending the war when we do that.”
Doocy jumped to another question before getting a response from Zelensky, he asked Trump “Is this the end of the road for American support for Ukraine?. Is today’s meeting, a deal or no deal?. “
I can never say that. It’s never the end of the road.” Trump replied.
Peter Doocy asked Trump a very cheeky question “which has the better cards?” to which President Trump replied “Well, I don’t want to say that”. Earlier this year in Zelensky’s first visit to white house, during the heated conversation between Zelensky and Trump, President mentioned to Zelensky that “you dont have the cards”
Peter Doocy then Truned again to President Zelensky, asked him “are you prepared to keep sending Ukrainian troops to their deaths for another couple of years? OR are you going to agree to redraw the maps?”
Zelensky clearly tried to avoid answering Peter’s question which clearly indicates that he is not ready to give up on war.
The tense exchange raised big questions: Is the U.S. nearing the end of its support for Ukraine? Will Trump’s approach pressure Zelensky into making concessions? Or is this just another high-stakes political photo op?
