President Donald Trump floated the idea of renaming the Pentagon back to the Department of War, arguing that America’s greatest victories came under its original name. During a White House meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung, Trump suggested that the current name “sounds too defensive” and hinted that the change could come “within a week.”
Trump added that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth would help finalize the decision, saying: “We’ll do it a couple of more times. And if everyone likes it, we’ll make that change.” Would Congress need approval? Trump dismissed the concern: “We’re just going to do it. I don’t think we even need that.”
