President Donald Trump delivers another bombshell from the Oval Office.
While meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump accused Democrats of being “leaderless” and said there was “no one to negotiate with” to end the ongoing seven-day government shutdown.
The President’s remarks came as the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) signaled it may deny back pay to some federal workers once the government reopens — and even permanently eliminate certain positions viewed as “non-essential.”
“We have a lot of things that we’re going to eliminate and permanently eliminate,” Trump told reporters, before adding, “There are some people who really don’t deserve to be taken care of, and we’ll take care of them in a different way.”
Trump also took direct aim at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, claiming he no longer has influence within his party:
“I don’t know if Schumer has any power anymore. The Democrats have no leader. They remind me of Somalia.”
The President’s statement comes as negotiations over a Republican short-term funding bill remain deadlocked. The Senate is expected to reconvene later this week, but bipartisan support remains uncertain.
